Martial Arts Uniform

The martial arts uniform is called a karategi in almost every form of martial art. In English speaking countries is often incorrectly called a “gi”. It is usually white, although some masters prefer to wear a black one, and jujitsu uses black clothing for steal purposes. They have plenty of room for mobility with short leggings and arms.

A martial arts uniform is only complete once the belt is added to the karategi. The belt distinguishes the student or masters rank so opponents and other students can quickly identify their skill level. As a student progresses the belt color changes, but the uniform remains the same other than that.

A martial arts uniform should be cleaned regularly to keep its crisp white color. This will also prevent it from stinking or becoming stiff from excess sweat. Belts should not be washed with the kimono because they have a tendency to bleed their color into the white uniform. Belts don’t need to be cleaned very often if at all.
