They have everything from colored belts to uniforms, weapons and sparring sticks and pads. Many places offer free shipping, but if equipment is needed fast a local shop is preferred.

A local martial arts supply store will have many different items, but may not have as wide a selection as can be found online. The major advantage to going to a real store is that there is usually someone there that can help. Often they are connected to a dojo where people train so expert opinions are available.

The most useful martial art supply is the uniform. It displays the students rank so any other person can quickly identify the student’s skill. This way other students and masters can quickly ascertain what skills they should have and what to expect of their fighting style and form. This allows for students to seek out advice from the correct person without having to consult with many people.
